The National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) was awarded, last Thursday, 14th, for its operations in 2023, in coordinating the offering of debentures, which are medium and long-term debt securities issued by companies to finance projects.
BNDES was considered the best Latin American institution in the debentures category of the IJ Global award, which every year awards the most innovative and impactful institutions and infrastructure and energy projects in the Americas.
Regarding the subject, the vice-governor of Amapá, the economist Teles Junior, who worked at the time as state planning secretary and led the process with the São Paulo Stock Exchange and BNDES, spoke to the program ‘LuizMeloInterview’ (Diário FM 90.9) this Friday, 22nd.
“It is a satisfaction because the Amapá project had an important repercussion at the Brazilian level, because based on the studies we carried out, on economic and financial viability, on private participation in the sanitation sector, the new Sanitation Legal Framework was created. of Brazil, and I want to make a reference to the president of the Federal Senate at the time, Davi Alcolumbre”celebrated Teles Júnior.
The lieutenant governor also called “great legacy” the new Legal Framework which, according to him, resulted in the expansion of investments aimed at the sanitation sector. “In Amapá, sanitation was a critical point, historically we had, and still have, one of the lowest indicators in Brazil, but after the Legal Framework and the new concession contracts, we have contracted the universalization parameters with the market”he said.
“The projects continue. We had Alagoas entering, São Paulo now entering with Sabesp. In the coming years in Brazil there will be a great boost in the sanitation sector based on private participation”, declared Teles, who also recalled the planning obstacles, such as the low population with low average income. “We would not, in theory, be able to price the projects satisfactorily”he added.
“The new legal framework was designed to solve these problems, allowing us to make single concessions, concession unification, allowing us to carry out auctions with price reductions and a model so that we could open the market so that not only large companies of sanitation participated, but also new consortia and new companies”concluded Teles Júnior.
