Target of the Federal Police (PF) operation launched last week against former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and allies for alleged involvement in the acts of 8/1, Army colonel, Marcelo Costa Câmara, asked for the arrest to be revoked. Câmara’s defense also asked for the removal of the minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), Alexandre de Moraes.

“There is no evidence in the records, even minimally, that the aggravating factor [Marcelo Câmara] used official computerized systems or, even in a parallel and/or illegal way, as lightly pointed out — to monitor one or several authorities”, argues the defense of Bolsonaro’s former advisor.

Câmara was arrested on Thursday (8) along with other military personnel and Jair Bolsonaro’s former international affairs advisor, Filipe G. Martins.

When requesting Moraes’ removal, Câmara’s defense said that the minister cannot judge the case, since he is an interested party. Moraes has positioned himself as a victim of alleged “coup” plans.

“In view of the flagrant impediment of the aforementioned authority [Alexandre de Moraes] to carry out any decision-making acts in this case, as he has a direct interest in the outcome of the procedure”, states the soldier’s lawyer, Luiz Eduardo Kuntz.

Marcelo Câmara is also mentioned in the investigations investigating the alleged sale of official gifts from the past administration and the alleged fraud with the former president’s family’s vaccination cards.

On Wednesday (14), Bolsonaro’s defense also called for Moraes’ removal.

“A narrative that places the reporting minister in the role of central victim of the alleged actions that were the subject of the investigation, highlighting several action plans that directly targeted him”, said the former president’s defense.
