Tarcísio’s Government Secretary announces PSD support for Ricardo Nunes

The national president of the PSD, Gilberto Kassab, confirmed his support for the mayor of São Paulo, Ricardo Nunes (MDB), in the dispute for re-election in the capital of São Paulo in the 2024 elections. Kassab is Secretary of Government of the state of São Paulo under Tarcísio’s administration de Freitas (Republicans), who is a political ally of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL).

The announcement was made on Saturday morning (23) at an event in the East Zone of the city of São Paulo, according to information from the newspaper The State of S. Paulo. On the occasion, Nunes informed that urbanization works will be carried out in the Morumbizinho region.

Kassab’s decision was made official after the Liberal Party (PL) and Bolsonaro decided to support the mayor of São Paulo and not the possible candidacy of former Environment Minister Ricardo Salles (PL). But the choice of Nunes’s deputy must be made by the PL.

“This week, Bolsonaro closed the matter and let’s go with Ricardo Nunes. He also said that we will have a surprise with the name chosen for vice”, said Valdemar Costa Neto, president of PL, to the newspaper The globe. The information was confirmed by the Liberal Party to People’s Gazette.

Salles, who is currently a federal deputy, told People’s Gazette who will respect the former president’s decision and ruled out leaving the PL, even with the party’s support for mayor Ricardo Nunes. “If that is the former president’s decision, I will respect it, of course,” he said. “Furthermore, he [Bolsonaro] He doesn’t want me to leave, so I’m going to stay in the PL”, he highlighted.
