State deputy Tomé Abduch (Republicans) took up a place on the board of trustees of the Padre Anchieta Foundation, which maintains TV Cultura.

Deputy leader of the government Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicanos-SP) in the Legislative Assembly of São Paulo and a Bolsonarist, he was the only member of the House’s Culture Committee to express interest in the post, being unanimously approved by his colleagues in August.

In council meetings he participated in, Abduch proposed that the Foundation commission market research to find out what the population’s perception is regarding TV Cultura.

He is one of the leaders of the group Nas Ruas, which emerged during the impeachment of Dilma Rousseff, and later joined Bolsonarism.

The emphasis of his work as an advisor, he says, should be to ensure that TV acts neutrally. He states that he prefers not to comment on accusations from fellow Bolsonarists that the broadcaster would persecute former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and be aligned with left-wing agendas, but that he will seek to “dialogue with 100% of the population, and not just with parts her”.

With this, he argues, TV Cultura will attract more audiences, more sponsors and place less burden on the São Paulo government’s coffers.

São Paulo’s Secretary of Culture, Marilia Marton, has been involved in episodes of friction on the board of trustees.

During a meeting in June, as revealed by the Panel, she tried to intimidate advisors by saying that she would find out who had leaked to the Sheet the information that he had given up on nominating conservative filmmaker Josias Teófilo to the board after a strong negative reaction.
