There is no evidence that Covid-19 vaccines have caused an increase in deaths from malignant tumors and cardiovascular diseases among younger people in England, as a post on X claims.

The content, verified by Comprova, is based on a publication on the website of an investment manager that repeats the format of a scientific study and shows the supposed significant increase in the number of excess deaths (more deaths than expected for a given period ) for cancer in people aged 15 to 44 in England and Wales in 2021 and 2022.

In the conclusion of the article, the author states that he adopts the hypothesis that the increase in excess cancer deaths would be one of the medium to long-term negative effects of vaccines against Covid-19. However, there is no detail throughout the text about whether these cancer victims were vaccinated or not. There is also no other data that supports the causal relationship proposed by him, that vaccines would be the reason for these deaths.

The company that publishes the supposed study and one of its partners have already produced other anti-vaccine content in English that has been denied by international checking organizations.

The author of the post on X says that the increase in deaths from malignant tumors would have reached close to 50%. The publication she cited does not even mention, however, the variation in the absolute number of deaths. The text on the investment manager’s website deals with excess deaths, calculated based on the author’s own method, which, in isolation, also does not allow attributing causes to vaccination.

According to data collected by Comprova from the Office for National Statistics (ONS), the British body responsible for managing official local data, there was an increase in the number of cancer deaths in England and Wales in 2021 and 2022. 1.4% and 4.3%, respectively.

Also according to ONS data tabulated by Comprova, there were 1,744 cancer deaths considered excess in England and Wales between 2021 and 2022, which represented 0.57% of the total deaths from the disease in the period in both countries ( 300,896).

Scientific studies and British medical entities point out that the increase in deaths from cancer and heart disease during and after the emergence of Covid-19 was due to the impact of the pandemic on the healthcare system, which caused sick people to abandon treatments or needed to postpone diagnoses. None of them cite vaccination as the cause of the increase in deaths.

Furthermore, data gathered by a study from the University of Birmingham shows that the vaccine reduced Covid-19 deaths in cancer patients.

False, for Comprova, is content that is invented or has been edited to change its original meaning and disseminated deliberately to spread a falsehood.

The report contacted Karina Michelin, author of the post, and the company that published the study, but there was no response. The anti-vaccine content published by Karina has already been checked previously. Comprova has already demonstrated that vaccines do not cause heart disease in children to “explode”, do not cause damage to the immune system and do not cause genetic changes.
