The Sports Justice Attorney’s Office filed, this Friday (23), with an Unnamed Measure at the Superior Court of Sports Justice (STJD) to request that Sport send its future games behind closed doors and lose the ticket charge as a visitor. The request was made shortly after the attack on the Fortaleza bus, which occurred this Wednesday (21).

The vehicle carrying the tricolor delegation had left the Pernambuco Arena, the stage for the duel between the teams, when it was hit by stones and bombs. Six Leão do Pici players were injured.

“This sad factual situation, which is moving away every day from the ‘state of duty’ sculpted in the country’s sporting legislation, has been showing the risks of the dangerousness of acts carried out by fans of Sport Clube do Recife/PE to the safety of future events to be organized. by the Club, which has a legal duty to ensure that its fans comply with the conditions for access or stay at the sports venue, in accordance with art. 158 of Law 14,597/2023”says an excerpt of the measure.

The text also cites article 79 of the 2023 General Competition Regulations of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), which says:

“In cases of violence and serious disturbances, based on art. 175, § 2 of the CBJD and the FIFA Disciplinary Code, matches corresponding to the penalty of loss of field command may be held, as determined by the STJD, in the same stadium in which the club plays its games, with gates closed to the public, ticket sales are prohibited.”

Sport’s position

In a statement, Sport regretted what happened and said that it was “available to help with the investigation of facts and investigations, seeking to identify those involved in this criminal act”. Furthermore, the red-black president, Yuri Romão, requested a meeting with the state government to help identify the perpetrators of the attack.

CBF position

The CBF competition board is analyzing whether to postpone two Fortaleza games. The problem for this to happen is the calendar. Itatiaia found that the Ceará Football Federation (FCF) spoke to the president of the confederation, Ednaldo Rodrigues, requesting the postponements.

On Thursday morning, the CEO of Fortaleza’s SAF, Marcelo Paz, said that the team did not want to take the field until the six injured players had recovered. The most serious cases are for full-backs Gonzalo Escobar and Dudu, who are expected to miss several days of training.

The two games analyzed for postponement are:

  • Copa do Brasil – Fluminense-PI x Fortaleza – February 29th (Thursday) – 8pm (Brasília time)
  • Copa do Nordeste – Botafogo-PB x Fortaleza – March 5th (Tuesday) – 7pm (Brasília time)
