Senator’s Advisory Randolph Rodrigues informed on the morning of this Thursday, 20, that the Federal Supreme Court (STF) decided that it is not necessary to submit a Sedimentary Area Assessment (AASS) in areas auctioned off the coast of Amapá for oil research and exploration.
According to the information, the STF decision applies to the oceanic Equatorial Margin, which extends from Amapá to Rio Grande do Norte. On the coast of Amapa, the Equatorial Margin is more than five hundred kilometers from the mouth of the Amazon River and about 154 kilometers from the ground bank of the state.
The Sedimentary Area Assessment is one of the main documents required by Ibama so that it can release oil and gas prospecting, by Petrobras, on the Equatorial Margin of Amapá. In addition, the institute points out the presence of coral reefs in the region and other obstacles of an environmental nature.
Alleging these details, which it considers to be problems that prevent the work requested by the oil company, Ibama first denied the license, but after much resistance from Petrobras, the political class and the Ministry of Mines and Energy itself, Ibama backed down and waved with the possibility of reviewing the issue, if the company presented all the necessary documentation.
The advice of Senator Randolfe Rodrigues considers the decision of the STF “another victory for the release of research in the state”. The parliamentarian even disconnected from the Sustainability Network due to the decision of Ibama, an agency belonging to the Ministry of the Environment, headed by Marina Silva, one of the greatest expressions of the party association.
The decision of the Federal Supreme Court was forwarded to Ibama, and based on it, Petrobras is already filing a new request for a study to investigate the existence or not of oil in the Equatorial Margin of Amapá.
