Manaus (AM) – Sportsman’s Day was celebrated this Monday (19), in honor of all those who are dedicated to, enjoy and practice sports. The date aims to raise awareness and encourage sports practice in the development of healthy habits, as in the cases of judo sensei David Azevedo and jiu-jitsu teacher Waleska Castro.

David Azevedo is currently a judo sensei at the Escolinha Champions da Vila Project, linked to the Sports and Leisure Program in the Capital and Interior (Pelci), and at the Caminho Suave Institute of Martial Arts, as well as president of the Judo Federation of Amazonas (Fejama) . In more than 40 years as a teacher of the sport, David highlights how sport changed the lives of several students who were socially vulnerable and became successful professionals.

“Sport develops respect, discipline and friendship. I had many athletes who became teachers, even at universities, playing sports was a transformative agent in the lives of these young people at the time, they lived in a dangerous region, with a lot of crime, but they managed to become accomplished professionals in the path they chose.” ,

David highlighted.

In the case of Waleska Castro, jiu-jitsu teacher and supervisor at the Sports and Leisure Program in the Capital and Interior (Pelci), the sport was transformative not only in her life, but also that of a family member who was experiencing health problems. For Waleska, it is very important to encourage other women to adopt sporting habits.

“Playing sports gives you a lot of self-confidence, self-esteem and provides a healthier life. Today I have great pleasure in teaching many women who did not believe in their potential, who had gone through difficult times and in sport found friendship, affection and love between people”,

praised Waleska Castro.
