In 2024, Sport Clube Macapá, the ‘Lion of FAB’, will complete eight decades of existence. The great times of the club, which in 1975 won the first Copa da Amazônia title, in Porto Velho (RO), contrast with the more recent period full of serious administration problems and the loss of even its own headquarters at number 718 Avenida FAB, corner of Eliezer Levy Street, central area of the capital.

This Thursday, 11th, on the program ‘LuizMeloInterview (Diário FM 90.9), the current vice-president of the club, Eide Figueira, announced what could be the last chapter of a years-long legal battle that involves many people and the company Icon Construtora e Incorporações.

Without detailing the case, Eide said that around eight years ago he joined the club’s board of directors and discovered that the old board of directors had signed agreements with the construction company, and that Icon later transferred the assets to a traditional family from Amapá, as a way of paying off a debt of R$ 10 million. He also declined to give details of who was involved.

“When I entered [no Macapá], I had this ‘not a good surprise’. We were surprised by a lawsuit, and Macapá had already lost its assets. I started working as a lawyer and called all my former associates to help, but no one showed up and I took over the process with my sister, who is also a lawyer. We spent seven years negotiating this process, as we were defending this heritage that we had to rescue. And now, this year, we managed to close the four cases they had and reached an agreement. Both parties understood that they were victims of Icon. The company worked with promises that did not happen. We have evidence, convictions, but it wasn’t done by people from Macapá, they were from outside. People who took over management positions with the purpose of selling the building. After everything had happened, they left,” said Eide.

The director stated that from now on the necessary measures will be adopted to resume the project, and that in 2024 the dream of building the new FAB Leão headquarters should, in fact, come to fruition. As for the people who would have appropriated astronomical values with the sale of the headquarters in the past, the current vice-president preferred not to speak out, stating only that he was acting as a faithful defender of the club’s greater cause, which is the rescue of history, of heritage and its fans.
