With a score of 4 to 2, federal deputy Silas Câmara (Republicanos-AM) had his mandate revoked this Tuesday (31) by the Regional Electoral Court of Amazonas (TRE-AM). The politician can appeal to the Superior Electoral Court (TSE). With the decision, Adail Filho, who was also elected by the party in 2022 with 125,068 votes, loses his position in the Chamber of Deputies.

Born in Acre, Silas has had a political career in Amazonas for 25 years and was in his fifth consecutive term as federal deputy. He is accused of illicitly raising and spending financial resources in the 2022 electoral campaign.

The request for loss of mandate was made by the Public Electoral Ministry (MPE), in a special representation filed against the parliamentarian.

According to political scientist Carlo Santiago, in the event of impeachment, the Liberal Party (PL) of Alfredo Nascimento and Captain Alberto Neto, and also União Brasil, of Saullo Vianna, Fausto Jr., and Pauderney Avelino, could win new seats in the Chamber of Deputies.

Silas will appeal

By means of a note, the Legal Department of Federal Deputy Silas Câmara informed that the parliamentarian will appeal the TRE-AM decision, reaffirming his commitment to the legal defense of his mandate, achieved with a lot of work, unity, for a holy purpose, in a clean and honest.

According to the defense, the decision was made by a small majority of votes and contradicted the previous position of TRE-AM itself, which approved the Deputy’s accounts. Confidence in the reversal of the judgment is total and the Deputy will continue to fully exercise his responsibilities while awaiting the definitive assessment of the case by the Electoral Court.
