The first year of his second term in the Senate is marked by amendments for the health and defense of the Free Zone in Federal Government reforms

Manaus (AM) – With emphasis on the health and infrastructure of the capital and interior of Amazonas, the parliamentary amendments indicated by senator Omar Aziz (PSD-AM) totaled R$234.6 million in 2023. Divided between the health areas (R$84, 1 million), paving works (R$ 55 million), social assistance (R$ 49.2 million), infrastructure (R$ 28.3 million) and public security (R$ 18 million), the resources have served since the operation from hospitals in the interior to major works such as the restoration of the AM-010 highway.

Aimed mainly at cities in the interior of Amazonas, the resources allocated to public health helped to pay for the operation of hospitals, renovations in basic units and the purchase of hospital equipment. The second largest volume of amendments indicated by Omar was for works to pave local roads and restore the urban road network, also with a greater concentration for municipalities in the interior.

“Closing this first year of my second term as senator of the Republic, I believe that I have done important work for our State, not only with the amendments, but defending the interests of Amazonas in the changes proposed by the tax reform and the fiscal framework, mainly with regard to the impact on the Manaus Free Trade Zone. For 2024, we already have a positive forecast of more investments for municipalities, maintaining priority for health and infrastructure”,

highlighted Omar.

Together, the figures for social assistance and infrastructure reached R$77.5 million, used to purchase various equipment. In social assistance, one of the highlighted actions was the investment in the facilities of Social Assistance Reference Centers (Cras) and Specialized Social Assistance Reference Centers (Creas) in the interior of Amazonas.

Still in the infrastructure and paving segment, municipalities such as Maraã and São Paulo de Olivença are some of those that received parliamentary amendments from the senator and invested in works that directly benefit the population. Only in Maraã, more than 600 kilometers away from the capital of Amazonas, did the city hall begin concrete paving on urban roads, thanks to resources released via parliamentary amendments, positively impacting more than 250 families in the region.

In public security, part of the resources allocated by Omar Aziz was used to purchase armored boats, used to combat crime on rivers in the capital and in the interior of Amazonas. The boats are equipped with advanced technologies, providing greater efficiency in police operations. “Every investment in public security is important, especially if we take into account our geographical reality, where combating drug trafficking and river pirates becomes a gigantic challenge”, explained the senator.

Still in 2023, the parliamentarian was responsible for allocating the second installment for paving works on the AM-010 highway, worth R$29.4 million. In 2022, the parliamentarian had indicated more than R$42 million as the first installment for the State Government to carry out the work, which is currently at an advanced stage and has already brought improvements to those who use the highway, which connects Manaus to municipalities such as Itacoatiara.
