The Monastery of São Bento, in Fortaleza (CE), was vandalized with graffiti of swastikas, pentagrams and phrases praising Satanism, as well as insults against Christians. Cat bones were also left at the site.

The case happened in the early hours of Friday (20), three days after an evangelical church in the capital suffered similar attacks.

In an interview with the newspaper O Povo, the person responsible for the Monastery, Father Marcos, said that what happened was “a sign of religious intolerance”.

“It is not only graffiti, but also an offense against our faith. It is a clear sign of intimidation, they are trying to scare us in some way”, said the religious man.

According to the priest, in addition to registering an Incident Report, “religious measures will be taken, which is redress, where we ask God for forgiveness for this offense and we ask forgiveness for the people who committed it, who do not know what they are doing”.

Evangelical church was invaded at the beginning of the week

As reported by People’s Gazetteon Tuesday (17), in addition to breaking several objects, the invaders left a dismembered cat and threats on the pulpit of an evangelical church, in the Paupina neighborhood, in Fortaleza (CE).

On a note left at the scene, the invaders wrote phrases such as “glory to Lucifer” and other disturbing messages.

In a video circulating on social media, it is possible to see parts of the cat arranged on the pulpit.

In a statement, the Civil Police reported that they are investigating the case as an environmental crime, for mistreatment of animals, and a crime of damage, due to the broken objects inside the church.
