Santos (SP) – Robinho was arrested, in the early evening of this Thursday (21), in the building where he lives, in Santos, on the coast of São Paulo. The former player was detained after the Special Court of the Superior Court of Justice (STJ) decided, by a majority, on Wednesday (20), that he serve a 9-year sentence for the crime of gang rape, following conviction by the Italian justice system. .

Robinho was convicted of a sexual crime against an Albanian woman, while he was still playing for Milan, in Italy, in 2013. Nine years later, the Italian courts ultimately sentenced the former player. As reported, he will undergo a custody hearing this evening, in Federal Court.

Now, the former athlete must be taken to the Federal Police headquarters, where he will undergo a criminal examination. Subsequently, he must undergo a custody hearing and then be sent to a penitentiary, which has not yet been defined.

Denial of habeas corpus

The Federal Police directed the vehicles to Robinha’s house after Minister Luiz Fux, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), rejected the defense’s request for habeas corpus.

The defense argued that the STJ violated jurisprudence as an embargo-type appeal against the ratification would still be possible, as well as an extraordinary appeal to the Supreme Court, which is why it would be mandatory to wait for the decision to ratify the foreign sentence to become final, that is, only when there is no further appeal.
