Remember the exchange of criticism between allies of Marta and Boulos – 01/10/2024 – Power

The relationship between allies of Marta Suplicy (without a party, but on the way to the PT) and Guilherme Boulos (PSOL) has already involved the exchange of harsh criticisms before negotiating a ticket to contest the election for the Mayor of São Paulo.

Psolists such as federal deputy Sâmia Bomfim (PSOL-SP) have already stated that Marta could face resistance due to her history marked by criticism of the PT.

While she was a senator for the PMDB, Marta was in favor of the impeachment of Dilma Rousseff (PT), a position she supported in January 2023 in an interview with Sheet. A long-time PT member, she left the party in 2015, when she criticized corruption in the party.

The possible alliance with Boulos is the result of an agreement between PT and PSOL that involved the last general elections. In 2022, the psolist gave up his candidacy for the Government of São Paulo to strengthen Fernando Haddad’s (PT) ticket. Now, President Lula’s party has committed not to present its own candidacy for mayor to support Boulos in the race.

Lula personally participated in the negotiations to bring Marta back to the PT and form the ticket with Boulos. PT and Psolists said they thought the movement was unlikely, since Marta was Secretary of International Relations for Ricardo Nunes (MDB), the city’s current mayor who is seeking re-election.

On Monday (8), Marta told Lula that she had accepted the invitation to be Boulos’ deputy and, the following day, she left the Nunes administration.

Remember episodes that involved exchanging barbs between Marta and Boulos or their respective allies.

‘Weak content’

In the last municipal elections, Marta stated that Boulos was “tense, heavy, with weak content. It will not please those who want to have hope.” She made reference to a debate in the second round between the politician and Bruno Covas (PSDB), winner of those elections.

Marta also called Boulos’ response on the fight against Covid-19 in Brazil “absurd”, as the Panel showed. On the occasion, the politician compared the country’s performance with that of China.

“Absurd response from Boulos. You can’t compare SP/Brazil with an authoritarian regime like China, where with one song, you close the city. And woe betide anyone who disobeys,” he said.

‘Pickaxe’

Also in the 2020 campaign, businessman Marcio Toledo, Marta’s husband, criticized Boulos’ performance. Toledo stated that the politician had invented having Covid to avoid attending a debate scheduled in the last phase of the campaign. The accusation, made in a WhatsApp group, was published by the newspaper O Estado de S. Paulo.

“Boulos fixed Covid to escape the debate… He would be slaughtered and unmasked… Jeez, Boulos is a hack,” he wrote.

‘Traitor of the people’

Federal deputy Luiza Erundina (PSOL-SP), who was a candidate for Boulos’ vice-president in the 2020 elections, has already called Marta a “traitor of the people”.

The statement was made in 2016, when Erundina was a deputy and running for Mayor of São Paulo. At the time, Marta Suplicy was a pre-candidate for the PMDB.

In 2020, Marta said that Erundina made “disloyal” mention of her in response to the psolista’s accusation that Marta had reduced the Education budget.

In December 2023, Erundina stated that she had difficulty understanding Lula’s strategy in forming the Boulos ticket with the former PT member.

Allies of Mayor Ricardo Nunes predict a new accusation of treason for Marta.

The departure of the secretariat was announced by both parties on Tuesday afternoon (9) after signs increased that the agreement proposed by Lula would come to fruition.

Until then, Nunes told the press that she did not believe the articulation would occur. “It doesn’t make sense for someone who has been in government for three years to have an attitude like that. It’s not Marta’s profile,” he said during a press conference on December 23.

Impeachment

While Marta was in favor of the impeachment of Dilma Rousseff (PT), Boulos defends the thesis that the former president suffered a coup.

At the time of the impeachment in 2016, Marta was accused by left-wing activists, who even wrote “she betrayed the coup” on the sidewalk of the politician’s office in São Paulo.

Boulos stated at the time that those in favor of impeachment had “selective morals”. As coordinator of the MTST (Homeless Workers Movement), he led demonstrations against the former president’s departure.

“Anyone who thinks it ended here is mistaken. The coup was carried out by the senators, but the Resistance will continue on the streets”, he stated in 2016 on social media.

Animosity

In an interview with UOL in November 2023, federal deputy Sâmia Bomfim (PSOL-SP) stated that psolistas had no way of giving an opinion on the choice of vice president, given the agreement made with the PT to guarantee support in the elections.

At the time, she said she thought it was unlikely that Marta would be chosen to form a ticket with Boulos. She also stated that some sectors of the PT would probably not welcome the decision, as Marta had been in favor of Dilma’s impeachment.

“There is animosity towards her figure,” he said. “I think she has a more organic relationship with Ricardo Nunes today than with the PT militancy and with Guilherme Boulos himself.”

Sâmia said that Marta had the merit of having already been a well-rated mayor, especially in peripheral regions, in addition to being a woman, an “important appeal” when choosing the composition of the Executive. However, she stated that she believed that the ideal would be for the party to choose a “more organic” name and that it already participated in the coordination process between the parties.
