Sérgio Coelho will take office as president of Atlético-MG for a second term until the end of 2026, in a ceremony at 7pm this Tuesday (2). The director, directly linked to the Black and White Football Society (SAF), has been in the post since 2021 and was re-elected on December 12, 2023.

The inauguration ceremony will be held at the Atlético-MG headquarters, in Bairro Lourdes, Central-South Region of Belo Horizonte. The expectation is that the club’s top management, with members of the SAF and also the Association, will be present at the ceremony.

The vice-president of Atlético-MG until 2026 will be Márcio André de Brito, who was on the ticket with Sérgio Coelho. The then vice-president, José Murilo Procópio, chose not to continue in office and withdrew his name from the dispute.

Sérgio Coelho and Márcio André de Brito will join the Board of Directors of Atlético-MG’s SAF. The two will be representatives of the associative part of the club.

First term
In his first term as president of Atlético-MG, Sérgio Coelho led the club during the most successful period in its history. Galo was champion of the Campeonato Brasileiro (2021), the Copa do Brasil (2021), the Supercopa do Brasil (2022) and the Campeonato Mineiro three times (2021, 2022 and 2023).

In 2023, the management led by Sérgio Coelho had approval from the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) to make the 1937 Tournament of Champions official as the first Brazilian Championship. In this way, Galo became considered three-time national champion.

Atlético-MG also became SAF under Sérgio Coelho’s management and opened its own stadium. On August 27, 2023, Arena MRV, in Belo Horizonte, hosted the first official match.

Galo Holding will have 75% of the shares linked to the club’s current investors, known as 4 Rs (Rubens Menin, Rafael Menin and Ricardo Guimarães. The rest of the shares will be held by two funds – 10.91%, each, also with participation from “quarto R”, Renato Salvador).

At this Tuesday’s ceremony, there will also be space for Instituto Galo, an entity with social purposes linked to Atlético-MG. Maria Alice Coelho will be sworn in again as president, and Walter Fróes as vice president. Fróes will replace Márcio André de Brito in the post.
