After losing the fight for the Foz do Amazonas oil license, the leader of the Lula government in the National Congress, Randolfe Rodrigues, resigned from the Network, the party of the Minister of the Environment, Marina Silva.

The disaffiliation takes place less than 24 hours after Ibama (Brazilian Institute for the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources), subordinate to Marina’s portfolio, denied Petrobras authorization to drill in the soil in the Amazon basin.

Randolfe, alongside the president of the oil company, Jean Paul Prates, and the Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, was one of the defenders of the enterprise.

In a note about the disaffiliation, the senator stated that the Network “was on the side of Brazilians fighting fascism, and fulfilled a historic role with love, courage and dedication”. “I will forever be honored to have been a part of this epic journey,” he added.

Randolfe also thanked “the companionship and conviviality” during the period he was in the caption. “In particular, I take for life examples of loyalty to the people, such as that of my companion Heloísa Helena, who yesterday, today and always will inspire me”, said the parliamentarian.

This year, the dispute between Randolfe and Marina was also wide open in the dispute for the party’s presidency — in this case, the senator’s group emerged victorious on the ticket with Heloísa Helena, with 58% of the votes, a tight margin.

The Minister of the Environment endorsed the other ticket, in a group with the president of Funai, Joenia Wapichana (Rede-RR), and with Túlio Gadelha (Rede-PE).
