The PT is negotiating the affiliation of senator Randolfe Rodrigues (Rede-AP), leader of the government in Congress, and, with ten parties on the bench, intends to claim the vice-presidency of the House from the president of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG). —today pledged to the MDB, in case of victory.

The PT bench in the Senate has been divided over the party’s space on the Board of Directors. Part of the senators defend that, with the election of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, the PT should run for vice-presidency of the Senate. Others understand that the government must consider important allies, such as the MDB, to guarantee the parliamentary base.

To solve the crisis, the caucus chose the leader of the government, senator Jaques Wagner (PT-BA), the leader of the current caucus, Paulo Rocha (PT-PA), and the next one, Fabiano Contarato (PT-ES), who was chosen last week. The three were in charge of talking to the president of the Senate this Friday (27).

In the current scenario, the MDB has 10 senators and the PT, 9. Petistas claim that, with the affiliation of Randolfe Rodrigues, the priority will be to negotiate the name of Senator Humberto Costa (PT-PE) for the vice-presidency of the Senate —already that the two parties will have ten senators each.

Parliamentarians affirm, however, that the PT does not want to pick a fight with the MDB and that, if there is no agreement, the party will settle for the 1st secretary and indicate the name of senator Rogério Carvalho (PT-SE), who today is 3rd Secretary of the Board of Directors.

Pacheco’s allies claim that, if re-elected, he wants to keep Veneziano senator Vital do Rêgo (MDB-PB) as vice-president of the Senate and take Rogério Carvalho to the 1st secretariat, which works as a “town hall” and is responsible for general supervision of the House.

Fabiano Contarato affirms that the PT will not be “intransigent” in relation to anything, and that everything will be built with a lot of dialogue.

The future leader of the bench denied that the PT already has the name of the possible nominees for the Board of Directors, in case Pacheco is re-elected. According to him, the PT must understand, first, which space it will be entitled to.

“The possibility is that Senator Randolfe joins the Workers’ Party. He would leave the Network and join the PT. The formation of a block would be with other parties. And, with this context, the formatting of spaces changes”, he said, after bench meeting, this Thursday (26).

“All this is being built in a very serene, very calm way. This is to be sat down and talked about, obviously. We defined that we are going to support the re-election of President Pacheco and, now, we are going to sit down and talk about what the PT’s participation will be in that plate.”

Randolfe’s decision to join the PT, according to people who participated in the negotiation, has already been communicated to President Lula and the Minister of the Environment, Marina Silva (Rede). The senator’s advisory was questioned about the change, but declined to comment.

The PT is also negotiating the formation of a bloc with the PSB, the party of the Vice President of the Republic, Geraldo Alckmin (PSB).

As shown to Sheet, the party must have at least three senators in the next legislature and, for that, it is negotiating the affiliation of Chico Rodrigues (União Brasil-RR). On Friday (20), the legend joined Jorge Kajuru (GO), ex-Podemos.
