PT says that 80% of the acronym supports the name of the Republicans to the TCU – 01/26/2023 – Panel

The candidacy of Jhonatan de Jesus (Republicans) for the vacancy of Minister of the TCU (Tribunal de Contas da União) already has 80% of the PT bench in the Chamber of Deputies, in a gesture to attract the parliamentarian’s caption to Luiz’s government Ignatius Lula da Silva.

According to PT members, there would already be around 60 deputies willing to vote for Jhonatan next Thursday (2), when the TCU election should take place — a day after the vote for the Board of Directors of the Chamber in which the current president, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), must be re-elected. In the next legislature, the PT will have 68 deputies.

The expectation is that the deputy will get the PT’s almost full membership in the dispute, in an effort that even involves inviting Jhonatan to participate in an internal seminar with parliamentarians from the PT bench. The PT’s nod seeks to bring the Republicans closer to the government.

The nomination for a vacancy in the TCU is up to the Chamber. The new minister will replace Ana Arraes, who left office on July 22 last year. Lira promised Republicans to nominate Jhonatan for the vacancy in 2020, before being elected for the first term.

Despite the bench’s intention to make a signal to the Republicans, there is a possibility that this will not materialize, as the vote is secret. In this scenario, the candidacy of deputy Soraya Santos (PL-RJ) could be a threat to Jhonatan’s election, even though she is from the party of former president Jair Bolsonaro.

Soraya must enter the dispute until Friday (27) and adopt a speech that Minister Ana Arraes should be replaced by a woman. In addition, she has a degree in law, while the Republican colleague is a doctor and businessman.

Finally, one of the main arguments that would be used against Jhonatan’s nomination is the crisis involving the Yanomami people in Roraima, the state to which the deputy belongs. Criticism would go in the direction that the parliamentarian did not act to avoid the scenario of chaos in the indigenous land.
