Rio de Janeiro – Delma Gonçalves, known as Pretinha, had her feet immortalized on the Walk of Fame at the Maracanã stadium this Monday morning (14). The former player made her mark for the Brazilian national team, for which she played in four editions of the Olympic Games (1996, 2000, 2004 and 2008) and four World Cups (1991, 1995, 1999 and 2007).
“The penny is slowly falling. That’s the truth. From this responsibility of being the second woman [Marta foi a primeira] to immortalize my feet here on the Walk of Fame, to represent all women, regardless of whether they play football or not, but the important thing is to be able to be here. I think that little by little I will begin to realize the size of the responsibility of being the second woman to immortalize her feet on the Walk of Fame. I am very happy with this tribute, to be able to represent all the women who practice the sport and all the women in our Brazil”,
declared Pretinha, who, in addition to Queen Marta, will share space with other reference names in Brazilian football such as Pelé, Garrincha, Zico and Didi.

Pretinha was one of the pioneers of women’s football in Brazil, participating prominently in the country’s campaign at the Atlanta Games in 1996 (the first Olympics to have women’s football in its program), being the competition’s top scorer with four goals. She was also in the campaigns that secured two Olympic silvers, at the Athens Games (Greece), in 2004, and Beijing (China), in 2008.
The former striker also defended the Brazilian national team in the 2007 World Cup, held in China and in which Brazil finished runner-up after being defeated by Germany in the decision.
