The Organized Port of Santana, managed by Companhia Docas de Santana, in Amapá, closed the year 2023 with record movement, the highest in the last nine years, with growth of 48.1% compared to the year 2022. In total, the The port handled 3.623 million tons of cargo, of which 2.627 million tons were shipped and 996 thousand tons were unloaded.

The biggest highlight among the loads handled were solid bulk, especially those of vegetable origin, which include loads such as soybeans, corn, soybean meal and wood chips (eucalyptus), which grew 49.7% in 2023 compared to 2022, being responsible for 82.2% of the total movement in the period.

Agricultural commodities occupy a prominent place

Among the highlights for the high growth recorded in 2023 are agricultural commodities, corn, soybeans and soybean meal, which increased their movement by 77.6% in 2023, compared to 2022. A total of 2.018 million tons moved, between shipments and landings, compared to 1.136 million tons in the previous year.

Cargoes such as corn and soybeans, driven by the evolution of grain exports through ports in the Amazon Arc, registered new historical records, surpassing the previous year’s movement by 135.4% and 72.2%, respectively.

Long Haul Movement

In 2023, 71 ships docked at the Port of Santana to load cargo, moving a total of 2.627 million tons, registering a growth of 42.2% compared to 2022. The main cargoes exported were: wood chips (958,510 t), corn grains (514,303 t), soybeans (408,227 t), manganese (386,342 t), iron ore (194,646 t) and soybean meal (111,820 t).

In 2023, the Port of Santana carried out 463 operations with barges for unloading and transshipment of cargo, moving a total of 995,801 thousand tons, an increase of 66.3% compared to 2022. The main cargoes received were: corn grains (489,689 t), soybeans (382,236 t) and soybean meal (111,513 t).

Historical movement data shows, in addition to the record movement, a diversification and change in the profile of cargo handled by the Port of Santana, which starts to consolidate operations with agricultural bulk, adding them to the already consolidated wood chip operations, also guaranteeing space for other operations such as mineral bulk and general cargo.
