Polish amputee overcomes Richarlison and takes Puskás Award for most beautiful goal

Marcin Oleksy won the Puskás Award, category of The Best, for the great goal scored in Warta Poznan x Stal Rzeszow, a game held in November in Poland. The Pole, who had part of his left leg amputated, overcame Brazilian Richarlison and Frenchman Dimitri Payet and won the vote, which combines the choice of fans on FIFA’s website and the decision of a jury of experts.
It is the first time that a player without one of the members has won the Puskás. Oleksy also defends the Polish national team and even represented his country at the Amputee World Cup in 2022.
Outside of football, he works as a laborer and wakes up every day at 5 am to start his day. Oleksy trains at least three times a week with his club and national team.
Oleksy played as a goalkeeper in his teens and had Iker Casillas, from Real Madrid, as his biggest idol. His life completely changed after November 20, 2010.
He had to have his left leg amputated after being crushed by heavy machinery while working on a roadside construction site. The accident was caused by a runaway car that left the track and hit the machinery, which fell on it.
His return to the pitch took place in 2019 and in a different position. He began to make a name for himself as a striker in the national league and was called up for the first time by the Polish national team.
