The São Paulo Junior Football Cup 2024 ended this Thursday (25). In the Cup won by Corinthians, more than 3,000 young people up to 21 years old played not only in search of the title, but mainly to keep alive the dream of achieving a career in sport.

The funnel to become a professional in Brazil is tight. A survey by Deltafolha, the data journalism center of Sheetmapped the path of all 1,925 players who participated in the 2010 Copinha to understand whether the competition has boosted (or not) their careers since then.

78% of the participants in that edition are far from what can be called a football star: 37% have never even played football professionally, and 41% try to survive from the sport, but their market value is lower than the average of series D of the Brazilian Championship.

This Friday (26th) episode of Café da Manhã talks about the obstacles to the dream of being a football player. The reporters from Sheet Daniel Mariani and Luciano Trindade explain the current scenario in Brazil and discuss why this funnel is so tight.

The audio program is published on Spotify, a streaming service partner of Sheet in the initiative and which specializes in music, podcast and video. You can listen to the episode by clicking above. To access the app, simply register for free.

Café da Manhã is published from Monday to Friday, always at the beginning of the day. The episode is presented by journalist Gabriela Mayer, produced by Daniel Castro and Victor Lacombe. Sound editing is by Thomé Granemann.
