The target of permanent complaints from the center, which is trying to overthrow him in order to place one of his staff in the strategic position he currently occupies, the Minister of Institutional Relations, Alexandre Padilha, told São Paulo businesspeople that he has a recipe for dealing with friction and day-to-day tensions of political articulation.

“I joke that every day I leave the house and keep my liver in the fridge and my ego in the trunk,” he said at a lunch that brought together, among others, the president of Febraban, Isaac Sidney, the president of the LVMH group for America Latina, Davide Marcovitch, the CEO and founder of Allos, Rafael Sales, Marcos Molina, from the Marfrig group, the president of the Federal Court of Auditors (TCU), Bruno Dantas, lawyers Luiz Gustavo Bichara and Pierpaolo Bottini and lawyer Gabriela Araujo .

ON GOAL

Padilha reinforced that the Lula government will pursue the goal of zero fiscal deficit in 2024 and said that the president’s first mission was to detoxify political relations in the country.

He states that he recommended to Lula, in the first days of his third term, to create a “true rehabilitation program for the country’s institutional relations” to undo the “true toxic relationship” that the administration of Jair Bolsonaro (PL) created with the several institutions.

“When I said this to President Lula, he said: ‘Are you inventing a detoxification program? Physical rehabilitation?’. I said it was a bit like that,” said Padilha.

Regarding the deficit, he stated that there was a lot of uncertainty related to the government’s viability and willingness to pursue the fiscal target. And he said that, in 2024, the administration of Finance Minister, Fernando Haddad, will pursue zero fiscal deficit “as a fundamental goal, to provide clarity for the Executive’s effort.”

This effort will involve, according to Padilha, the MP exempting 17 segments of the economy.

NEW TEXT

At the end of February, Lula revoked parts of the measure. They were reassigned to a bill that will be evaluated by the National Congress as a matter of urgency.
