Organized fans deny action against Jair Bolsonaro in São Paulo – 02/16/2024 – Sports

Posts stating that organized fans of some of Brazil’s main football teams are organizing an event in São Paulo, on February 25, in defense of democracy and against former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL), are false. The publications mention Mancha Alvi Verde, from Palmeiras; Gaviões da Fiel, from Corinthians; Independent, from São Paulo; Galoucura, from Atlético-MG; Blue Mafia, from Cruzeiro; Raça Rubro-Negra, from Flamengo; Força Jovem, from Vasco; and Fúria Jovem, from Botafogo. The first five denied having made such a call; the report was unable to contact the last three.

As verified by Comprova, Mancha Alvi Verde published a note on its networks stating that it did not issue any “call for its members to attend demonstrations of a political nature and disapproves of the improper use of its name in apocryphal publications on social networks”.

Danilo Pássaro, a fan of Gaviões da Fiel and one of the organizers of the event that united fans for democracy in 2020, posted false news about the “organizing of fans to confront the Bolsonaristas”. In the publication, he writes that “what brought us together in 2020 was the defense of democracy, something that we believe is not necessary for now.”

Regarding Independente, Henrique Gomes, Baby, one of the main supporters leaders, stated that there is nothing organized. “Independente respects democracy, the left, right and center. Whoever wants to go, goes, but Independente, the CNPJ, didn’t call for anything,” he told the reporter.

Among the Minas Gerais fans, the president of Galoucura, Josimar Júnior, declared that the fans do not participate in political events. The vice-president of the Blue Mafia, Raphael Ceraso, stated that he was unaware of “this call for a ‘national act in defense of democracy'”.

According to the posts, the event would take place at 3:30 pm, on Avenida Paulista, the same place where Jair Bolsonaro (PL) called his supporters for a demonstration on the same day, half an hour earlier. In post with video published on February 12, the former president calls on Bolsonaro supporters for a peaceful act and says: “I want to defend myself against all the accusations that have been made against me in recent months.”

In the report, the São Paulo Public Security Secretariat stated that the Military Police were informed about demonstrations on the 25th, “but there were no details”. The city hall was also contacted, but did not respond until the publication of this text.

False, for Comprova, is content that is invented or has been edited to change its original meaning and disseminated deliberately to spread a falsehood.
