With a distant relationship with former president Jair Bolsonaro, Senator Hamilton Mourão (Republicanos-RS), who was his deputy, was not present on his return to Brazil this Thursday (30).

But he welcomed the old boss. “Welcome back [bem-vindo de volta],” he told the Panel

Bolsonaro was received at the headquarters of the PL by allies from different parties. Among them were senators and former ministers Ciro Nogueira (PI) and Tereza Cristina (MS), for example, both from the PP.

“Today I am traveling to Rio de Janeiro. At the first opportunity, we will talk,” said Mourão, who said he did not speak with Bolsonaro in the first hours after his return.

The relationship between Bolsonaro and Mourão cooled over the four years in office and, in the end, was tense. When trying to be re-elected, the former president chose another general as vice-president on his ticket, Braga Netto.

For Mourão, upon returning to Brazil, the former president has the necessary conditions to lead the opposition to the government of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) and pave the way for a new presidential candidacy.

“I see that he is going to assume the chair of honor of his party, with that he has a political position. He has a huge group of followers. Today the biggest mass movement that exists in Brazil is the movement of the right that is led by him So he is in a position to influence the polls. To prepare for next year’s municipal election and lay the foundations for his possible return in 2026”, he believes.
