More than a thousand athletes participate in the AJP Jiu-Jitsu tournament weigh-in – News of Brazil

This Friday afternoon (26th), at Amapá Garden Shopping, the weigh-in took place for the selection of one of the main jiu-jitsu events in the world, which will be held in Macapá for the first time: the Abu Dhabi Jiu-Jitsu Pro ( AJP). This step is to classify the category in which the athletes will fight. There are more than 1,000 registered fighters, who will start the disputes on Saturday (27) and Sunday (28).
The competition is organized by the Jiu-Jitsu Federation of the State of Amapá (Fejja), with the support of the Municipality of Macapá, through the Municipal Secretary of Sports and Leisure (Semel).
The competition brings together people from all over Amapá and other countries. Jiu-jitsu teacher, Rômulo Melo, teaches the martial art in the social project “Filhotes”, in the municipality of Pedra Branca do Amapari, about 183 kilometers from Macapá, and made a point of bringing a delegation of seven students to the dispute.
“We came from Pedra Branca to participate and we are very excited, also because we don’t have conditions to go out of state. So without a doubt, hosting a world-class competition is something unique for us.”reported the professor.
The competition is organized in Macapá by the Jiu-Jitsu Federation of the State of Amapá (Fejja) and worldwide by the International Federation of Abu Dhabi, which rotates countries performing trials to form a ranking.
The first three placed in each qualifier score points and this score is added to form the overall ranking, with the best placed going to the United Arab Emirates to fight at the World Jiu-Jitsu World Pro, which takes place in Abu Dahbi this month. from November.
Leila Miranda, teacher of the modality in the “Cova dos Leões” project, in Macapá, brought the child and youth athlete Eduarda Nogueira, 12 years old. She said that an event of this magnitude serves to enhance the sport and the athletes, in addition to valuing the state of Amapá, which already has a long history in jiu jitsu in the North region.
Eduarda tells about the expectation of participating in the competition: “My expectation is that, even though I won’t win this championship, I can learn from my mistakes and improve, so that in the next ones I’ll be much better than this one”emphasized the athlete.
The AJP clashes take place this weekend. On Saturday (27) from 3 pm to 6 pm, and on Sunday (28) from 10 am to 6 pm, on the court of the Federal Institute of Science, Technology and Education of Amapá (IFAP).
Still on the weighing stage, the technical director of the Amapaense Jiu-Jitsu Federation, Gleik Nascimento, commented on the importance of this stage. “The moment of weighing is fundamental. It’s from there that the athlete gets on the scale and will make the decision if he’s really fit or not to participate in the fights”, he explained.
Entry to watch the competition is completely free and disputes will be in male and female suits and in different age groups and categories, such as Kids, Juvenile, White Belt, Blue Belt, Purple Belt, Brown Belt and Black Belt.
“At this event we are going to receive about a thousand athletes from various places and projects in our state, from other regions of Brazil and even from other countries. With this participation, we were able to break the record for the highest number of subscribers in a martial art modality, participating in an event here in our capital”informed the municipal secretary of Sports and Leisure, Bruno Church.
