This Friday (26), the Central Market staged the beginning of 40 Day Challenge, an initiative of the Municipality of Macapá that encourages the practice of physical activities and the adoption of a healthy diet.

The competition is part of the preparation for Macapá Summer 2023 and has the participation of 28 groups, composed of five people each. During the 40 days of the challenge, participants will be monitored by physical education and nutrition professionals, with the aim of losing the highest percentage of body fat and gaining quality of life.

In addition to the health benefits, the project offers prizes to the winning teams. The first-place team will receive medals and a cash prize of R$2,000. The second place will receive medals and a prize of BRL 1,000, while the third place will receive medals and BRL 500.

Medals will also be distributed to participants who stand out individually in the challenge.

Carine de Souza, a 24-year-old university student and resident of Novo Buritizal, is participating in the 40 Days Challenge in the “Lisa Somos” team, alongside her mother, sister, girlfriend and sister-in-law. She stresses the importance of mutual support.

“We think about the community, we live in the same house, so that makes things easier. One keeps checking what the other is eating, we know when someone went to the gym, if they’ve already done the day’s training. We have a real motivation to stay focused, because if one gives up, the whole group loses. It’s a family challengeaccount.

40 Day Challenge Rules

The competition has a multidisciplinary commission composed of two nutritionists, three physical education professionals and a physiotherapist, responsible for evaluating and monitoring the participating teams. Participants will receive guidance and follow-up through a group in the Telegram application.

The objective of the challenge is to lose the highest percentage of body fat among all participants in the group during the 40-day period. The initial measurements were carried out on the 18th, 19th and 20th of May, and the final measurements will take place on the 7th and 8th of July. The percentage of fat will be measured on a bioimpedance scale in the final period of the challenge, to determine the winning teams.

“The 40 Day Challenge is an opportunity for people to engage in physical activity and adopt a balanced diet. We want to encourage healthy habits and provide healthy competition among participants,” highlights the municipal secretary of Sports and Leisure, Bruno Church.

The project has the support of the Municipal Health Department (Semsa), the Municipal Culture Foundation (Fumcult) and the Municipal Tourism Institute (Macapátur), and is part of the actions of the Macapá City Hall to promote well-being and quality of life of the population.
