The Minister of Women, Cida Gonçalves, said this Monday (25) that she received the provisional release of former football player Daniel Alves from prison with “a lot of indignation” and that the freedom of a rapist was bought for R$5 million , amount paid for bail.

“[Recebo com] Lots of indignation. R$5 million buys the freedom of a rapist who has already been tried, convicted of rape”, said Cida.

“The woman’s word is once again being violated, suffering the consequences. I think it was a mistake. I can’t judge what happened in Spain, but he should serve his sentence in prison”, he added, in front of the Palácio da Alvorada.

The former football player was released from prison at 4:25 pm (12:25 pm in Brasília) this Monday (25), after paying a bail of €1 million, the equivalent of R$5.5 million.

Freedom is provisional and is valid only until the final sentence is handed down, after exhaustion of resources. If he is not acquitted, he will be arrested again to serve his sentence — currently set at 4 and a half years. In the meantime, he must appear at the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia every Friday.

Alves spent 14 months and 5 days in Brians 2. He was arrested on January 20, 2023, when he presented himself at a police summons after reporting rape by a 23-year-old girl.

The case happened on December 30, 2022, at the Sutton Barcelona nightclub. According to the complaint, Alves forced her to have sex in the bathroom of the VIP area. On February 22 of this year, the Brazilian was sentenced to 4 and a half years in prison, but the final sentence still depends on the parties exhausting their appeals.

President Lula (PT) and the first lady, Rosângela da Silva, known as Janja, received a group of women parliamentarians and government ministers at the Planalto Palace on Monday night (25).

The meeting was organized by Janja and aimed to bring women closer to them, according to reports. The meeting lasted about 4 hours.

All ministers were present at the meeting, with the exception of Nísia Trindade (Health). Around 40 female parliamentarians were also present. The only man present, besides the president himself, was minister Alexandre Padilha (SRI).

According to Cida Gonçalves, the meeting dealt with priority issues for women, and was a celebration.
