Participating this Wednesday (8) at the Brazil Investment Forum, in Brasília, Aloizio Mercadante, president of BNDES (National Bank for Economic and Social Development), criticized defenders of the preservation of the Amazon who do not know the region.
“There are many experts talking about pororoca, but they have never seen a stream,” said Mercadante, during a speech about the COP30, in Belém (PA).
The former minister has tried to integrate discussions about the environment into the bank’s operations. At the end of October, during a BNDES event, he said that “the climate crisis gives Brazil a leading role in this agenda.”
“Brazil can have the ambition to be the first country in the G20 to have zero emissions. And, with the Amazon and the biodiversity we have – the largest on the planet –, we can have the decisive answer for humanity, which will give the country more protagonism” , he stated.
