When participating virtually in a debate by the Justice and Peace Commission of the Federal District (CJP-DF), this Monday (6), Father Julio Lancellotti complained about the criticism he received after speaking at a pro-Hamas event, in São Paulo, on Saturday (4).
“I was bombarded from all sides, mainly by Catholics, very religious Catholics, very orthodox, very faithful to the orthodoxy of the church, who are not capable of reflecting that the Palestinian people are not Hamas and Hamas is not the Palestinian people,” he stated. the priest.
On Saturday, during the act in defense of Hamas terrorism, the priest called Israel a “murderous state” and “cowardly”.
Lancellotti was also applauded by the activists when he said he felt like a Palestinian amid the demonstrations. At the same event, the militants sang songs praising Hamas and other terrorist factions.
“[…] 79 was Iran. In 2000, Hezbollah. In 21, the Taliban. Now it’s time for Hamas, hello, hello, hello”, says an excerpt from a song sung to a samba rhythm by the militants.
When speaking at the CJP-DF, the priest complained about the lack of empathy with the poor and cited the writer Simone de Beauvoir, known for defending pedophiles and genocides, as an example of humanity.
“Yesterday (Sunday), when I celebrated Mass at six o’clock in the afternoon, I thought I wouldn’t make it to the end. At the moment of consecration, when I knelt down and laid my head down, I asked: ‘Jesus, calm me down, give me strength. Jesus, I know you are with me. It gives me strength to endure, reach the end of the celebration and overcome this moment of so much suffering,” he said during his participation in the debate.
