The Ministry of Education published, this Wednesday (14), an ordinance that increases the financing ceiling of Fies (Student Fund) for undergraduate courses in medicine.

The portfolio holder, Camilo Santana, had already announced the measure about two weeks ago, and it was published today in the Official Gazette.

The maximum half-year amount will now be R$ 60,000. Until then, according to the last ordinance of 2022, the maximum funding for the course was BRL 52,800.

For the other graduations, there was no change in the values, which will continue to be R$ 42.9 thousand, at most, and R$ 300, at least.

The ordinance passes this Wednesday.

Santana took to social media on the 1st to announce that the Fies management committee approved the change, following a request from medical students. According to the minister himself, some young people even dropped out of the course due to difficulties in paying the monthly fees.

In addition, the minister also said that a working group was created in the portfolio to, together with other ministries, present a law to the National Congress with changes in the Fies law. “It will make important changes to strengthen this important program for students and young people across Brazil,” he said.
