After a 1-1 draw in regular time, Gavião beat Onça 4-2 on penalties and lifted the Barezão 2024 trophy

Manaus (AM) – Manaus is the great champion of the 2024 Amazonense Championship! In another unforgettable night for the emerald fans, Gavião do Norte beat Amazonas on penalties, this Sunday (14), at the Roberto Simonsen stadium, SESI, and became six-time state champions. In regulation time, Willian Barbio opened the scoring for the Jaguar and Rafael Ibiapino left everything the same. At the final mark, Manaus won 4-2.

Now six-time Amazon champions, Manaus turns the key and focuses its attention on Series D of the Brazilian Championship, which starts on April 27th. The debut will be against Trem-AP, away from home, with details to be released by the CBF.

In turn, runner-up Amazonas will debut in Series B and debut next Saturday (20), against Sport, at 4pm, at Arena da Amazônia. The Jaguar is also still alive in the Copa do Brasil, a competition in which it awaits the definition of its opponent in the 3rd phase.

The game

After a balanced start to the game, Amazonas opened the scoring in the 11th minute, when Diego Torres headed the ball to Willian Barbio, who sent a low left-footed shot into the back of the goal. At a disadvantage, Manaus responded in the 18th minute. Renanzinho received it on the left, pulled it towards the middle and sent a strong shot from outside the area, but Edson Mardden blocked it for a corner.

In the 41st minute, Gaviao had another chance to score. Wendel Nery won the ball on the left and, already in front of goal, ended up finishing over the post defended by Mardden.

After the break, Manaus dominated the match even more, and Amazonas did little to scare the emerald defense. But the equalizer came 36 minutes into the second half. Bombado won the split in the middle and the ball was cleared for Rafael Ibiapino, who finished with a cross to leave everything equal at SESI. After Gavião-real’s draw, the match continued without any clear chances of scoring and the decision went to penalties.

Penalty dispute

At the whitewash mark, Renanzinho, Bombado, Miliano and Vinicius Leandro converted their kicks for the Manaus side. For Amazonas, Jô and Alvariño also sent it into the net, but Fabiano stopped at the post and Patric at Vinícius Fávero and Gavião do Norte took the title.
