Lula’s proposal “will kill transport applications in Brazil”, says president of Novo

The president of the Novo party, Eduardo Ribeiro, criticized the complementary bill that regulates transport work via apps presented by the Lula government. The text was sent to Congress, this Monday (4), as a matter of urgency. For Ribeiro, the proposal is a “silly idea” and should be rejected by parliamentarians.
“The regulations proposed by Lula will kill transport applications in Brazil and take away the livelihood of 778 thousand families. The project is simply terrible for drivers, platforms and users, and seems to have been designed to make the sector unviable”, stated the president of Novo in social media.
The project provides for minimum payment per hour worked, a mandatory social security contribution and the creation of category, worker and employer unions. Ribeiro pointed out that the minimum remuneration of R$32.09, established in the proposal, is “bizarre”.
“One of the merits of this model is based on performance-based pay. If the driver is well evaluated, he receives the best rides and the best prices. With the pricing, they will pay the minimum for everyone and discourage any internal competitiveness. The service will get worse,” he highlighted.
Ribeiro highlighted that the implementation of social security contributions and the obligation to create a union will result in app drivers being pushed into a “parallel CLT” and “forced to follow rules created by politicians and unionists who have never taken an Uber in their lives” .
“The practical result of all this is the total unfeasibility of this model… It is imperative that the National Congress overturn this false idea of the Minister of Labor and give a clear message to the Lula government”, said the president of Novo.
