Lula sanctions law that forces nightclubs to take measures to protect women

President Lula sanctioned the law that creates the “No is No” protocol this Friday (29), the last working day of 2023. The objective is to promote the protection of women in situations of embarrassment and violence in nightclubs, clubs, shows and other musical shows with the sale of alcoholic beverages. From now on, establishments must take a series of measures to prevent women from experiencing situations of violence or threats during events.

The law requires that homes have “at least one person qualified to comply with the ‘No is No’ protocol”. In cases of signs of violence, those responsible for the event must protect the woman involved, keep her away from the aggressor, collaborate with the identification of witnesses and call the Military Police. If the environment is monitored by security cameras, they must guarantee access to the images to the competent authorities and preserve the footage related to the incident for at least 30 days.

In the same text, President Lula instituted the “No is No – Safe Women” seal, which can be adopted by establishments that implement actions to preserve the integrity of the female public. Among other measures, the law suggests that nightclubs create a code so that women can alert employees about the need for help and thus receive the necessary assistance.

The bill was presented by federal deputy Maria do Rosário (PT-RS) and was processed quickly when compared to the approval time of the Legislative Houses. Presented in February this year, it took just ten months until the text was sanctioned. The parliamentarian makes up the board of directors of the Chamber of Deputies.
