Lula sanctions Desenrola project with limit on revolving credit card interest

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) sanctioned this Tuesday (3) the bill that creates Desenrola Brasil for debt renegotiation. The text also limits interest on revolving credit cards to 100%. The information was confirmed, in a note, by Palácio do Planalto. Lula is recovering from two surgeries, on his hip and eyelids, at Palácio da Alvorada.

“After the approval of the Senate, I sanctioned Desenrola Brasil, the largest debt renegotiation program in the country. The program began through a Provisional Measure from our government and has now been duly guaranteed with the support of the legislature. The forecast is to benefit 32 million people, with an average discount of 83% on debts. We are working even harder to improve the quality of life of Brazilians”, said the PT member on X (formerly Twitter).

Created through a provisional measure, the program has been running across the country since June. This Monday (2), the Senate symbolically approved PL 2685/22. The text had already been approved by the Chamber at the beginning of September. The MP that created Desenrola would expire this Tuesday (3). The program is already in its second phase. The economic team’s expectation is that the program will benefit around 32 million Brazilians.

“We will begin the last stage of the program, which can reach up to 32 million CPFs. This is the first time that an operation of this nature has been carried out. We are talking about R$150 billion that can eventually be paid off, which will allow people to have a more comfortable last quarter, with a clean name and recovered credit”, said Finance Minister, Fernando Haddad.
