International symposium in the Amazon highlights challenges and solutions for renewable energy

Manaus (AM) — Experts from all over the world are gathered at the Institute of Technological Development (INDT) on Wednesday (17), from 8:30 am to 8 pm, for the “Meeting on Materials for Energy Applications in Amazonas”, an event supported by the Government of Amazonas, by through the Amazonas State Research Support Foundation (Fapeam), and coordinated by Yurimiler Leyet Ruiz, professor in the Department of Materials Engineering at the University of Amazonas (Ufam). The event takes place at the INDT headquarters, on Avenida José Moacir Teberga de Toledo, 1520 Planalto.

The central objective of the meeting is to discuss fundamental issues related to the development of renewable energy in the region, highlighting the need for innovative and sustainable solutions.

One of the main themes highlighted is the adaptation of renewable energy technologies to the Amazon environment. With its vast forests and unique biodiversity, the Amazon presents unique challenges for the efficient implementation of clean energy sources. The use of advanced materials and nanotechnology are key points in the discussions, highlighting the need for innovative and sustainable solutions. At the same time, the event marks a strategic partnership between INDT and Ufam.

In 2021, the institute created an innovative project in the area of ​​batteries, developing a lithium polymer battery, which despite being one of the best materials for this application, lithium is highly reactive to oxygen, which has caused explosions in several devices, such as cell phones.

It was based on this challenge that the INDT team decided to seek collaboration with Ufam, using the university’s research laboratories. This partnership resulted in the strengthening of research and the emergence of new solutions for the energy sector that will be debated during these days of the event.

“As we form partnerships, we reduce costs and increase technical knowledge, as both industries and institutes have specialists in these areas”,

highlights Mitsuo Lopes Takeno, Director of Technology and Innovation at INDT and one of the event’s speakers.

In addition to advances in batteries and energy storage systems, the symposium addresses topics such as the environmental impact of energy sources, public policies for clean energy and sustainable development strategies. The exchange of knowledge between researchers from different areas and integration with international experts are essential elements to promote innovations and collaborations that drive the energy transition in the Amazon region.
