Despite the repercussions of the sudden death of businessman Cleriston Pereira da Cunha, which occurred this Monday (20) while sunbathing in Papuda, where he had been imprisoned for ten months for alleged involvement in the acts of January 8, President Lula and the Ministers of Justice, Flávio Dino, and Human Rights, Silvio Almeida, did not speak publicly about the case.

The minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), Alexandre de Moraes, was another who chose to remain silent. Despite the silence on the case, the minister appeared this Tuesday (21) at the Rio Branco Institute alongside other honorees – such as fellow Supreme Court ministers and minister Silvio Almeida – to receive the Medal of Merit for Rio Branco, an honor intended for “meritorious services and civic virtues”.

A People’s Gazette questioned the Ministries of Justice and Human Rights about possible measures to be adopted in relation to the businessman’s death, but did not receive a response by the time this article was written. The newspaper remains open for any statements from the departments regarding the death of Cleriston Pereira.

Very active on social media since Monday (20) with the Black Awareness Day celebrations; with the presidential live with the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, this Tuesday (21); and with the decoration of allies with the highest degree of the Order of Rio Branco, President Lula (PT) also avoided any mention of Cleriston’s death.

Also very active on social media, the Minister of Justice, Flávio Dino, has not made any reference to the businessman’s death since Monday (20).

A medical report had warned of Cleriston’s risk of sudden death

Since January 11th, Cleriston Pereira’s defense has presented medical reports informing about Cleriston’s delicate health condition, including warnings about the risk of sudden death if the businessman did not receive adequate care outside of prison.

On September 1st, the Federal Public Ministry (MPF) gave a favorable opinion to the request for provisional release filed by the businessman’s defense. Despite the MPF’s position, the document was not analyzed by minister Alexandre de Moraes.
