The teams that make up the Libra group signed a contract for the rights to broadcast the matches with Globo.

The contract term runs from 2025 to 2029, including the right to broadcast on all of the group’s media, with an estimated value of R$1.2 billion. Globo will pay around R$600 million at the time of signing, as an advance payment.

The value is 11% below the initially forecast, which was R$1.3 billion, because Corinthians decided to withdraw from the negotiation. The Parque São Jorge club wanted a guarantee that they will receive the same as Flamengo, and is inclined to sign with Liga Forte União.

Corinthians’ claim is that the team tends to have more audiences in São Paulo than Flamengo in Rio de Janeiro. Behind the scenes, this consideration is seen as a half-truth, especially in recent years.

Over the last few months, the main Brazilian football clubs in series A and B of the Brazilian Championship have come together in two large groups – the Liga Forte União, the result of the merger between the groups LFF (Liga Forte Futebol) and Grupo União, and the Libra- to negotiate broadcasting rights for its matches from 2025 onwards.

With the contract, Globo guarantees at least three games per round starting next year, which maintains the model of its open TV commercial package for the Brazilian Championship, which raised R$2.1 billion in the last edition. Globo works with a limit of R$2 billion for football-related expenses.

Libra includes the teams from series A Atlético-MG, Bahia, Flamengo, Grêmio, Palmeiras, Red Bull Bragantino, Santos, Vitória and São Paulo, in addition to nine from series B.

In November 2023, the 25 clubs that make up the Liga Forte União group concluded a definitive agreement with the group of investors led by the manager LCP (Life Capital Partners) to receive R$2.6 billion over the next 18 months, in exchange 20% of the bloc’s commercial rights for 50 years, starting in 2025.

Botafogo, Fluminense, Vasco, Cruzeiro and Internacional are among the clubs competing in the first division that are part of the Liga Forte União.
