The Minister of Justice and Public Security, Ricardo Lewandowski, removed this Wednesday (14) the current management of the Federal Penitentiary in Mossoró, in Rio Grande do Norte. Lewandowski appointed an intervenor to command the unit. The decision was taken after two inmates escaped from the institution.

The ministry informed, in a note, that the federal criminal police officer who will take over the prison is already in the city. He embarked for the location this afternoon with the National Secretary of Penal Policies, André Garcia. however, the ministry has not disclosed the name of the intervenor so far.

Two prisoners escaped from the maximum security unit this Wednesday morning (14). Preliminary information indicates that they are linked to Comando Vermelho and were previously detained in Rio Branco, Acre. This is the first escape from a maximum security federal penitentiary since the system was created in 2006.

The minister announced a series of measures this afternoon to investigate and take action on the escape.
