With the proposal to combat sexual crimes against children and adolescents as provided for in the Child and Adolescent Statute (ECA), Congresswoman Débora Menezes (PL) presented, this week, the Bill that creates the Pedophile Registry in Amazonas.
The measure, according to the parliamentarian, aims to make information available on people already convicted by the courts for sexual crimes against children and adolescents covered by the ECA. The data would be stored and would be under the care of the State Secretariat for Public Security (SSP-AM).
For Débora, a registry along these lines, in addition to providing a starting point for police investigations, would facilitate monitoring, whether by police authorities, guardianship councils and even by parents themselves.
“A similar law is in operation in the States of São Paulo, Mato Grosso, Paraná and Rondônia and the State of Amazonas cannot be without this important tool. I have no doubt that this project will help police authorities to prevent further practices of this type of violence against our children”,
defended the parliamentarian.
The project is still being processed in the Committees of the Legislative House.
