Landless women occupy large estates in Goiás – 03/25/2023 – Panel

Around 600 families from the MST (Landless Movement) occupied the São Lukas Farm in the municipality of Hidrolândia (GO) early this Saturday (25).
The area now belongs to the Union, but was owned by a group convicted in 2009 of sexual exploitation and human trafficking. According to the PF (Federal Police), women were imprisoned there and then trafficked to Switzerland, where they were subjected to sexual exploitation.
According to the MST, the occupation is part of the National Day of Struggle for Landless Women and demands that the farm be used for agrarian reform.
“We demand that this area, which was previously used to rape women, be set aside for the settlement of these families, so that we can produce healthy food and combat violence,” said Patrícia Cristiane, from the MST’s national leadership.
