The last round of promotions in the diplomatic career, announced last Friday (26), included women and blacks in a greater proportion.

According to data from the Itamaraty, female diplomats accounted for 37.5% of promotions to first-class minister, the top of the career and where ambassadors are located. The overall proportion of women in Itamaraty is currently 23%.

The same occurred at lower career levels, with diplomats representing 31.25% of promotions to second-class minister, 36.4% to adviser and 32% to first secretary.

Something similar happened with regard to blacks, who make up only 5% of the staff in the diplomatic career. They were awarded 12.5% ​​of promotions to first and second class ministers and 9.1% to councilors. They were slightly lower only in promotions to first secretary (4%).

There were 98 diplomats promoted in the current round. The intention of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is to gradually increase diversity through promotions in the upper echelons, which make it possible to open vacancies at the base to contemplate more women and blacks.
