On the 27th and 28th of May, Macapá hosted the Abu Dhabi Jiu-Jitsu Pro (AJP) tournament and brought together over a thousand athletes from 34 gyms, in the Gi (with gi) and No-Gi (no-gi) categories. One of the participants and champion of the master category up to 77kg purple belt was former councilor and athlete, Yuri Pelaes.

“This championship is very important for anyone who fights jiu-jitsu professionally. This victory was difficult, suffered, with a lot of humiliation and sacrifice to achieve and earn the title of champion. It was worth every second of preparation”, said the athlete.

The first three places in each selective receive a score and it is added to form the general ranking. The top finishers will have the chance to represent their countries in the United Arab Emirates, more specifically in Abu Dhabi, at the WorldPro Jiu-Jitsu World Championship, taking place in November.

The competition, which took place at the IFAP Gym and had the support of the Macapá City Hall and the organization of the Jiu-Jitsu Federation of the State of Amapá (Fejja), was a great opportunity for the athletes to demonstrate their talent at an international level and compete with the best fighters in the world.
