Grêmio won its sixth Gaucho championship in a row last Saturday (8). The victory came over Caxias and at the feet of Uruguayan Luiz Suárez, who scored the only goal, a penalty. The sixth championship was achieved in competitions between 2018 and 2023, and this year’s conquest brought Tricolor closer to Inter in terms of cups. There are 45 titles for Colorado, against 42 for the Grêmio fans. In the last ten years, however, the advantage is from Grêmio (see table).

It was in 1945 the first time that the sixth championship was won in Gauchão, precisely by Grêmio’s biggest rival, which thus marked its name in the history of football in Rio Grande do Sul. The feat was repeated by Tricolor in the campaign from 1962 to 1968, but was soon beaten by the record of consecutive conquests, Inter’s eighth championship (1969-1976). To this day the mark has not been repeated. In the sequence, Tricolor won another six championships, from 1985 to 1990. Colorado also won six titles in the period from 2011 to 2016, and, finally, Imortal with the current sequence (2018-2023), which can be expanded in next seasons.
