Steve Kerr will receive $35 million for two years
The Golden State Warriors made Steve Kerr the highest-paid NBA coach in history. The Warriors and Kerr agreed to a record two-year, $35 million contract extension.
Although San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich earns more per year, according to ESPN, Popovich also serves as the franchise’s president. The four-time NBA championship-winning coach’s contract was set to expire after the 2023-24 season. Kerr’s new deal is in line with the contract of the club’s star player, Steph Curry. The two-time NBA MVP still has two years remaining after this season.
The 58-year-old is in his 10th season with the franchise, where he has compiled a record of 502-264 in the regular season, 99-41 in the postseason. The “2015-16 Coach of the Year” winner led Golden State to six Western Conference titles and the league’s regular-season record for wins in a season (73).
