FIFA, football’s highest governing body, confirmed this Thursday (14) Brazil’s candidacy to host the 2027 Women’s World Cup, during the Council. The choice will take place on May 17, after voting by the 211 national associations affiliated with the entity, during the 74th Annual Congress in Bangkok (Thailand). At the end of the election, each vote will be revealed to the public.

Brazil, which has never hosted the women’s World Cup, will compete with joint applications from Europe (Germany, Netherlands and Belgium) and North America (United States and Mexico). The world competition will bring together 32 teams, including the Brazilian team, which dreams of an unprecedented title.

Brazil’s candidacy to host the next women’s World Cup has the support of the president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. In March last year, during the presentation of the cup at Palácio da Alvorada, Lula was emphatic in defending the holding of the 2027 World Cup in the country.

“It will be an extraordinary event, motivating the construction of political awareness among the Brazilian people so that they understand the participation of women effectively in every corner where they can and want to participate, wherever they want, in the way they want”, said Lula at the time. And he added: “Now, you have almost everything ready. There is better urban infrastructure work than we had in 2014. There are very good stadiums”.
