Coach Fernando Diniz was fired from the Brazilian team this Friday (5), one days after manager Ednaldo Rodrigues returned to the presidency of the CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation). The information was published by ge and confirmed by Sheet.

Diniz was hired in June last year on an interim basis, initially for a period of one year. The entity’s desire was for the Italian Carlo Ancelotti to take command of the team after the Copa América, in the middle of the year. Ancelotti, however, recently renewed his contract with Real Madrid until 2026.

When Ednaldo was reappointed to the position of president of the CBF, one of his main objectives was to define the national team’s coach definitively. São Paulo coach, Dorival Jr, is one of those tipped to take on the position.

Diniz led the Brazilian team in just six games, in the qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup. During the period, he accumulated two victories, against Bolivia and Peru, a draw with Venezuela, and three defeats against Uruguay, Colombia and Argentina.

The coach, who also coaches Fluminense, had the third worst performance of a coach in charge of the Canarinho team in history, with a success rate of just 39%.

Survey of Sheet based on the selection history maintained by RSSSF Brasil (national arm of the Rec.Sport.Soccer Statistics Foundation) shows that the coach is only ahead of Paulo Roberto Falcão and Chico Netto in terms of performance.
