Family, friends and institutions mourned the fighter’s death Felipe “Cabocão” Colares, former UFC fighter, who was run over by a bus on Avenida das Américas, in Guaratiba, West Zone of Rio, on Monday (1st). According to the Civil Police, the case was registered as manslaughter, when there is no intention to kill.
Also according to the Civil Police, expertise at the scene of the accident was requested, as well as images from security cameras in the region. Witnesses will be heard and other steps are underway at the 43rd DP (Guaratiba) to clarify the case.
On social media, the wife of Felipe, Jaqueline Amaral, mourned the early death of her husband. “Our little Rhavi will know what an amazing father you were. Your memory will be remembered forever. See you soon my love! Death is not the end”he wrote.
The father-in-law mourned the death and thanked him for the moments they spent together. “Goodbye to my son-in-law, fighter Felipe Cabocão who left for heaven today. May God have him by his side and may he be another angel protecting us here on earth. Thank you for the happy times we spent together”commented.
The athlete, born in Amapá, trained in the team Team Nogueira, commanded by Rodrigo Babi, and came with a record of 11 wins and four losses in MMA. He was Jungle Fight featherweight champion in 2017 and participated in six UFC fights between 2019 and 2022. This year, he debuted with a victory at the European event Ares FC and lived the expectation of disputing the belt in the second half.
Felipe also went viral on social media in January of this year, when he immobilized a young man who had just robbed a woman in Recreio dos Bandeirantes, a neighborhood close to the fatal accident. In this ocasion, Philip he applied a “rear-naked choke” and waited for the police to arrive, who took the young man to the police station.
Friends, like the athlete Tiago Trator, also commented on the difficulty of accepting the fighter’s early death. “Brother, it is very difficult for me to say goodbye to you forever! My heart mourns your departure, but the friendship that once united us will live in my heart.”lamented.
Amapá institutions also mourned the death of the fighter. “Felipe transmitted many joys to the people of Amapa and very bravely represented us in the best events in the world. Be at peace, champ!”said the Jiu Jitsu Federation of the State of Amapá in a statement.
The Secretary of State for Sports and Leisure also commented on the case. “Cabocão was one of the main names of the new generation of MMA from Amapa, with passages through Jungle Fight and UFC. This is an irreparable loss for martial arts in the state. In this moment of pain, Sedel pays condolences to friends and, above all, to the fighter’s family.”he said.
The governor of Amapá, Clecio Luis, remembered that Philip was in his best phase and left a legacy in the martial arts. “This Monday, on Labor Day, we lost a great fighter in a tragic traffic accident. A young man who always pursued his dreams and who made us so proud as a representative of the martial arts of Amapá. He, who collected several victories, was a Jungle Fight champion, went through the UFC, and moved to Rio de Janeiro to train at the gym of some of his idols, the brothers Minotouro and Minotauro. He was in the best phase, getting ready to represent Brazil in an event in France”commented.
clecio also remembered that Philip she was an activist for social causes, in defense of children and in the empowerment of women. “Cabocão was proud to display the flag of Amapá, and he always said: ‘I’m from the North, I’m indigenous, and that’s why I got here. I have to show all the people who accompany me that they can too’ My condolences to those who admired his work and, especially, to Cabocão’s family, who always encouraged him in his career. The son, just 10 months old, is left with his father’s legacy, a man with the true spirit of a warrior”.
the senator Randolph Rodrigues explained that Brazilian sport is in mourning. “Felipe Cabocão, a young man from Amapa, who brought so much pride with his career in MMA, left us this Monday. A tragedy claimed the life of the athlete who gained prominence for being one of the best in Amapá. In this moment of so much pain, we sympathize with the family, friends and athletes who lived with him. We are deeply sorry for this loss. Rest in peace, champ!”he said.
The organization Necmma, on what Philip was already part of, also honored the fighter. “We were privileged to have started this great human being’s MMA career! Where the same had in our organization, bonds of friendship with several members! Thank you for being part of MMA history. From Amapá to the World, now for eternity! Go in peace friend, may God comfort your family and friends!”lamented.
The family has yet to release information about the burial.
