Expecting MP, Aneel postpones analysis of adjustment of electricity tariff in Amapá – News of Brazil

The board of Aneel (National Electric Energy Agency) suspended this Tuesday (12) the analysis of the extraordinary adjustment of tariffs for CEA Equatorial, an energy distributor in Amapá. The average increase, initially proposed at 44.41%, was recalculated by the agency’s technical area to 34% after the public consultation phase.

The postponement is pending the publication of an MP (provisional measure) by the president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) to mitigate the effects of the readjustment. The proposal provoked pressure from state politicians under Planalto. The announcement is expected to be made next Monday (18) during Lula’s visit to Amapá.

The rapporteur on the topic at Aneel, Fernando Mosna, stated that he met on Monday (11) with representatives from the Ministry of Mines and Energy who ensured the publication of the MP and asked the agency to wait for the text to correctly calculate the tariff. The content of the measure, however, was not announced.

Mosna voted for the current CEA Equatorial tariffs to be extended for another 45 days to await the MP, postponing a final decision on the issue. However, Aneel’s general director, Sandoval Feitosa, requested a review of the process, which in practice also results in the analysis being postponed indefinitely.

According to Aneel’s current proposal, reformulated by the technical area, the adjustment would be as follows:

Average effect on the consumer: 34.54%;
High voltage: 38.08%;
Low voltage: 33.53%.

Both the postponement and the government’s promise are a victory for Amapá politicians with strong influence in Brasília, such as the senators David Alcolumbre (União Brasil-AP) and Randolfe Rodrigues (without party-AP), in addition to the Minister of Integration and Regional Development, Waldez Goes (PDT). The governor himself Clécio Luís was also participating in the negotiations. They had been demanding an action of Lula against the increase, considered abusive.
