Manaus (AM) – The first strokes and medals won are unforgettable in any swimmer’s life. The City of Manaus, through the Manaus Sport Foundation (FME), in partnership with the Department of Education (Semed), provides these unprecedented experiences through sport for the children of the “Educate through Sport” project.

“Manaus City Hall’s projects aim to promote the well-being and exercise of new habits in the lives of our city’s citizens. What today is a simple hobby, little by little grows along with skills and can soon result in great swimmers in the future. We continue to encourage children and young people to stay motivated on the path to sport. Our mission is to offer conditions and opportunities to them”, highlighted Aurilex Moreira, CEO of FME.

The swimming pool at Núcleo Coroado, which is located in the mini-Vila Olímpica, in the East zone, in addition to serving the “Manaus Esportiva” project, is fundamental for the progress of students in the municipal swimming education network. Many had their first contact with the competitive atmosphere of the sport last week, on November 17th, with participation in the Municipalities representing their respective schools.

The event involves more than six thousand students from the municipal education network, competing in 14 sports, and aims to develop school sports, promoting student socialization.

“Educating through Sports began in the second half of 2022, aimed at students from nearby municipal schools, overweight or underweight, on the autistic spectrum and People with Disabilities (PwDs). Currently, the project only operates in the afternoon shift, with over 60 active children, from six to 10 years old. We receive children who start from scratch and evolve. Therefore, this year we have already participated in competitions”, reported Kátia Almeida, teacher at the Center.

On 11/18, at the invitation of the Amazon Water Sports Federation (Fada), the Manaus Sport Foundation was present at the Hélio Veiga Lima Amazon Rookie Festival. With 23 athletes, including boys and girls, from pre-school to junior categories, the foundation’s team competed in different styles and achieved fourth place overall in the competition.

At the same time as part of the “Educate through Sports” project, students participate in the “Manaus Esportiva” program, which serves 18 centers spread across the capital. The objective is to promote the development of children, so that they identify an activity that they enjoy and start to have sport as a common practice in their daily lives.

Artisan Euricelia Martins is the mother of three children, aged 6, 9 and 10. They all learned to swim in project classes and participated in competitions for the first time.

“For me, as a mother, it was very rewarding, because I see their growth on a daily basis. They arrived here without knowing anything. Here they have fun, learn from these great professionals, in this structure. At the tournament, I cheered and cheered a lot for them. We see the first strokes and encourage them to want more,” she commented.

Guardians interested in enrolling children must come to the location with an identification document and school declaration to register for the desired activity and appropriate class.

The active classes are:

Beginners
Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm

Kids
Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm

Intermediary
Wednesdays and Fridays, from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm
